THE

SAMAELITE

LITURGY

The Ierà is the beating heart of Samaelism. It is the living liturgy, the sacred act in which word, gesture and silence intertwine to give form to the Mystery. The Ierà is celebrated by our members for the public worldwide, both online and in presence.

The Ierà

The Ierà is the supreme act of collective worship within the Ordo Adamantis Atri: a rite of alignment, elevation, and recommitment to the Pharmakon. Its name, derived from ancient liturgical roots, signifies “what is sacred by nature,” and in the Samaelite tradition, it designates the most solemn and complete celebration, performed weekly in all active communities of the Order.

Far from being a cultural custom or symbolic ceremony, the Ierà is a real metaphysical operation. Through word, gesture, invocation, and silence, the celebrants enact the very structure of Samaelite cosmology: the emergence of order from Nihil, the dialectic of Neikos and Philia, the shining of the Serpent into the world, and the faithful's response through knowledge and devotion.

Structure and Symbols

The Ierà follows a detailed canonical structure defined in the Codex Adamantis, and typically includes the following key elements:

  • Nihil: The invocation of the absolute absence which is the Farmacon. The participants are called to silence and humility before the mystery of origin.

  • Conscitum: The illumination of the icon and the raising of the soul toward the Serpent. This moment realigns the celebrant to the doctrinal center: God.

  • Conflictus: The dramatization of inner and outer struggle, invoking Polemos and preparing the soul for spiritual transformation.

  • Coniunctio: The symbolic union of the liturgical instruments (kopis and kotûle) to affirm the necessity of opposites and the harmony of the Pharmakon.

  • Reverbero & Emanatio: The invocation of divine knowledge and its descent into the world through ritual acts of mirroring and the lighting of the Spheres of Creation.

  • Unctio & Devotio: The anointing of the faithful as a sign of their individual and collective consecration. The vows are renewed in silence and in word.

  • Agàpe & Ratio: The anthropology of the celebration, introduced with the Unctio (birth of mankind) and Devotio (Homo religiosus) expands with the Agàpe (man as social animal) and Ratio (man as rational being).

  • Cooptatio: A closing in fraternity and gratitude. The sacred flame is extinguished ritually, but the light of understanding is to remain.

Each gesture, each word, and each silence within the Ierà is meticulously defined—nothing is arbitrary. The rite acts upon the participant, not merely through emotion or symbolism, but through ontological realignment with the principles of the Samaelite doctrine.

A Sacred Duty

Participation in the Ierà is not optional for those who call themselves Samaelites. It is the weekly moment when the Order exists in its fullest form: in unison, in knowledge, in humility, and in service. Absence without cause is not a personal choice—it is a rupture in the liturgical body of the Order.

For this reason, every Hiereús is called to celebrate the Ierà with discipline and dignity, and every member is encouraged to attend—whether in presence or through the authorized digital channel—fully prepared and inwardly recollected.

The Samaelite liturgical year.

Samaelism divides the year in 4 main liturgical moments, each of one begins with a major festivity that influences the liturgical colors and the celebrations hosted in that time of the year.

Discover our festivities in this section.

  • The Udenerie are the beginning of the samaelite liturgical year and, although are not considered to be one of the major festivities of Samaelism, they cover a fundamental role in our system. The Udenerie, being connected to the Farmacon for their own symbology, symbolize the pre-creative state of Nothingness. For this reason, samaelites from all around the world celebrate this festivity with twelve hours of silence, from 11AM to 11PM.

  • TThe Ofisie (20-21-22 December) celebrate the descent of the Pharmakon into the cosmos. They mark the theological origin of all things, when the Nihil emanates the Serpent as the first principle of order and disruption. Observed with solemn rites of silence and invocatory chants, the Ofisie are a time to reflect on the metaphysical foundations of the Samaelite path.

  • The Disoterie (20-21-22 March) are dedicated to Philia, the principle of love and aggregation. During these festivities the Samaelites organizes charity events and other ventures aimed to spread the joy of Samaelism among others.

  • The Faidrerie (20-21-22 June) are the feast of knowledge and illumination. They celebrate the light of understanding that dispels confusion and opens the path to transcendence. Marked by communal liturgies and meditative study, the Faidrerie invite each member to rekindle their inner flame and to serve the Pharmakon with renewed wisdom.

  • The Tanasimee (20-21-22 September) are the celebrations of death and desegregation. This feast renews the Samaelite commitment to inner struggle and purification through discipline, knowledge, and ritual devotion. It is a day of preparation and vigilance for the long winter of death.
